How would any active dub know that Commentary on James was written by "an apostate?" Unless he was a Bethelite during the late 70s maybe?
I remember that book at book study; loved it.
zoiks inspired this thread when he mentioned this book elsewhere.. i have read other threads on this forum about it, but i always enjoy the fresh insight on here.. commentary on the letter of james was always my favorite book from wtbs, partly because i love the book of james, but also because it was one of the books that dealt with more practical christian living than constant wt doctrine.. i mentioned to a number of people that i loved that book, and got a few comments of "well, you know that book was written by an apostate.".
it didnt take me long to do a little math - that book came out i believe in 1979/1980, right around the time of the great purge.
how could someone write such an excellent book and then be branded an apostate just a few months later???.

at a recent series of circuit assemblies, the governing body put out warnings on what in their view is the latest danger from satan, designed to break the faith of jehovah's witnesses everywhere.. facebook.. yes, thats right, apparantly, the gb is concerned because a lot of people are having "facebook sex".
they are meeting old friends who aren't jehovah's witnesses and getting it on with whomever would willingly sleep with them.
evidentally, the gb would like their flock to believe that when jw's get on facebook and other social networking sites, fornication happens.. now, this is news.
Internet DF-ing? Bah! What I'm shooting for is being DFd for hugging my wife during a prayer!
hi.. somethings seem weird.. for example - wages of sin is death - so if you sin you die, and if you die you have paid for that sin completely, so you have no more sin.
.
now what if everyone in the world was killed - by a nuclear domino effect - in theory we have saved everyone .... any ideas?.
Logic doesn't really mix well with folks who take their metaphors literally, does it?
my husband was raised in this religion, but was never baptized and does not go to meetings, although my mil is heavily involved.
although my husband doesn't practice his religion, he believes it is the truth and i hate asking him questions, because he is very defensive of the religion.
he and his mother, many years ago before i knew either of them, were treated for severe depression and hospitalized (at different times as a result of them going through divorces.
A big reason for the WTS to discourage the rank and file from talking to professionals is because those professionals have been educated in psychology and sociology and know how dangerous high control groups are. Any professional worth his/her salt is going to try and get a dub out of the borg.

Perry, what does the trial consist of if they're already guilty by virtue of not having accepted Christ in this life? Why bother resurrecting them, bringing them to the courtroom, and then withhold Christ's mercy from them? And why wait 1000 years to go through such a sham trial?
It doesn't make much sense to me...
so then, we come to the topic of 1914, again.. a lot of us on here have said it, and so i decided to write about it.. http://www.jehovahswitnessblog.com/2010/01/1914-soon-to-be-forgotten.html.
cheers,.
carlos.
They can't "drop" 1914 but if they can change the fundamental definition of a regular English word like "generation" they can surely shed noo lite on what 1914 means. Surely they can dig up some rationale for Jesus returning to inspect his house, throwing Satan our of heaven, and appointing the FDS while eliminating the idea that he actually invisibly took the throne at that time. By pulling Jesus out of the seat, we dubs then would have the next significant Blble event to look forward to: the enthronement. They could even liken Jesus Kingdom campaign to Noah's 120 years of preaching and set a new date: 2034. They could dig up some sort of "crown prince had to wait 120 days" crap from somewhere and posit their ridiculous "day for a year" interpretation to it.
So while they can't drop 1914 as the source of their power, they can make it mean any thing they want it to mean.

Our cong is full of Facebook friends. We had a CO visit not too long ago. Is a local needs part on the horizon?
boy i gotta say, i just can't make up my damned mind.
everytime i'm starting to feel better about the jw's, a brother or sister or the watchtower will say something just totally wacky.
did anyone get that bit in the watchtower last week about no questions allowed what so ever!!
"Let me establish one thing: I haven't got issues with mind control."
Do you mean you don't believe that's what the org is doing? Or that if they indeed are a mind control cult that you don't have a problem with that? Or do you mean that if they are really a mind control cult, you have no problem maintaining a mind of your own, anyway?
revelation talks about four horses.
the verses in nwt say a seal is opened, and four horses ride forth.
the first is on a white horse.
It fits the WT theology because he appears first, in 1914, then the others follow with the world wars, spanish flu, etc. They're wrong but they'll never change it.
the watchtower organization is very much aware of what is going on in their false religion.
too many witnesses no longer believe their teachings to be biblically correct.
an intensive effort to discover disloyalty, subversion, and those causing divisions is now taking place.
On this particular topic, what are the opinions here? What would be better or worse? For closet apostates to stay within the borg and plant seeds of doubt where possible? Or for every single member of the conscious class to get up and walk, en masse? Both have some appeal...
